The Thread Starts Here

• Michael Schroder

Every Threaditate piece begins the same way: one continuous thread, one loom, and one photo that means something to you.

What happens next is quiet, steady, and a little bit magic. Line by line, the thread crosses the loom. The patterns overlap and build into a face, a place, or a moment you didn’t want to forget. Thousands of steps and a few hours later, you’re holding string art from a photo, and you made it yourself.

This blog is where we’ll share how that happens, and why it’s special.

Where we’ve been

Threaditate took about seven years of R&D. It started as a question: could anyone, with no art background, enjoy turning a personal photo into a piece of string art without having to count nail heads or struggle to floss thin gaps? Our answer became a patented software system that turns your image into a guided threading sequence, and a patent-pending loom built to make every step feel natural, with a lightened cognitive load. More than 2,000 Kickstarter backers helped bring it to life, and your feedback still shapes how we still build.

Where we’re going

In the coming weeks and months, we’ll write about:

  • How Threaditate evolved: the prototypes, the dead ends, and the breakthroughs

  • What sets it apart: the design decisions behind the loom, the guide, and the app

  • Why that matters: what those choices mean when you’re actually threading

  • Who it’s for: first-time makers, seasoned artists, gift-givers, and anyone looking for an hour of calm, screen-free focus

  • What it feels like: the rhythm, the flow state, and the moment the image appears

Pull up a chair

Above all, this space is for connection. Maybe you’ve been doing string art for years. Maybe you’ve never threaded a thing. Either way, you’re welcome here. Share your pieces, ask questions, and tell us what you’d like to read about next.

We’re glad you’re here. Let’s start the thread.
